Corporate and Foundation Relations: Recent Grants

The work of Brandeis University is strengthened and advanced by the support of corporations and foundations.  Here are some recent grants:

M.R. Bauer Foundation
Two $20,000 grants, in support of the M.R. Bauer Foundation Colloquium Series, Distinguished Lecturer Series, and Scientific Retreat, at the Volen National Center for Complex Systems.  The colloquium and lecture series bring distinguished neuroscientists to campus, to deliver papers and to engage with faculty and students.  The scientific retreat is an intensive, two-day exploration of current issues in neuroscience, including guest speakers as well as Brandeis faculty and students.

Carnegie Corporation
A $615,600 grant, over three years, in support of the Science Posse Program.  The Science Posse Program provides special opportunities for disadvantaged students to pursue scientific studies and careers.  A cohort of ten students, who have demonstrated interest in and aptitude for science, proceed through college together, with the help of special preparation and assistance, as well as mutual support.

Ethics & Excellence in Journalism Foundation
A $37,500 grant in support of the Innocence Project of the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism.  The Innocence Project investigates cases of possible erroneous convictions, in which DNA evidence is not available.

The Foundation for Jewish Camp
A $100,000 grant, over two years, to support the Bildner Fellowship.  The Fellowship supports a graduate student in a dual-degree program jointly offered by the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program and the Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

The Max Kade Foundation
A $10,000 grant to support students’ summer travel to German-speaking countries, for research and study.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
A $1,651,000 grant, over four years, to support graduate student research and interdisciplinary dialogue and to provide dissertation-year fellowships.

The Medical Foundation
A $300,000 grant, over three years, in support of biomedical research.  Prof. Susan Paradis (Biology) was selected for a Smith Family Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research, administered by The Medical Foundation.

The Mosse Foundation for Education and the Arts
A $40,000 grant in support of the Transitional Year Program (TYP).  TYP provides a supplementary year of academic studies for disadvantaged students whose high schools did not sufficiently prepare them for college.
